His career in the climate movement was jump-started by working with executives and financial officers at Middlebury College to dramatically reduce their carbon emissions using the most economical means available. Jason co-authored the recently expanded version of Clean Air-Cool Planet's Campus Carbon Calculator, which is currently in use on over 2,500 campuses for greenhouse gas emissions inventories and economic analysis of carbon reduction projects.
Garth Moore, Internet Director: Garth brings almost a decade of experience developing, coordinating and implementing online campaigns within fast-paced and collaborative environments. Andrea Cuccaro (Florida and South Carolina): Before coming to the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy as the 1Sky Florida organizer, Andrea served as the 1Sky Washington Campaign Organizer with Climate Solutions. At both jobs, she has worked to recruit and engage dozens of clean energy businesses and civic groups around the climate agenda, she's been responsible for over 30 earned media hits, and built lists of hundreds of volunteers mobilizing around the 1Sky agenda. Previous to her work with the campaign, she worked with the City of Seattle on their Adopt-a-Street Program as the coordinator.
Joy Futrell (Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Kentucky): In the past four years, Joy has worked with several political and progressive issue campaigns in the South and Midwest on outreach, fundraising, and volunteer recruitment and training. She became interested in environmental organizing when she visited her home state of Kentucky and realized that blowing up mountains is a terribly uncreative, lazy means of accessing sources of energy. Joy has received numerous scholarships and accolades for her academic study, including the Randle Patrick McMurphy Award. She also enjoys cheap rock shows and watching football with her dog.
Jamie Hogue (Oregon and Washington State): Before joining the 1Sky team, Jamie worked as the Oregon Representative for the Pew Environment Group. She has also worked as a legislative aide and as a field organizer on the successful Measure 49 Campaign, which protects Oregon's land use laws. When she's not lobbying members of Congress or building coalitions, she enjoys camping, surfing, snowboarding and reading.
Micah Parkin (Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico): Before moving to Colorado two years ago, Micah was the Program Director for the New Orleans-based Alliance for Affordable Energy. Since moving to Colorado, Micah has volunteered with several organizations and served as a coordinator for two coalitions created to empower, expand, and coordinate the growing local movement to protect the climate and transition to a clean energy future. Regional Co-ordinators
Elaine Bello, New Hampshire: In 1979, Elaine helped form an Interior Design Program at Boston Architectural College and now serves on the Executive Advisory Board for their Practice Department. Through this work, it became obvious that the precious balance of natural world elements is greatly affected by building science and the choices made by designers of the man-made environment. She is most impressed by the dedication of her students as they learn new ways of building without contributing to climate change. Now as a Regional Coordinator for 1Sky Elaine is able to put her collaboration and team building skills to work for climate issues about which she is passionate.
Geneva Boyer, Massachusetts: Geneva has worked at the Newton Environmental Science Program for four years, teaching environmental science and stewardship. Geneva also served as the first head of the Social Justice Curriculum and Committee at her high school, CSW. Rev. Wes Garcia, South Dakota: Rev. Garcia has been concerned and an activist when it comes to the environment since the first Earth Day. He is now retired from teaching psychology and counseling classes and now spends his time working on environmental and human rights issues, and serving on a number of boards. Wes has an M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy and a M.Div. Wes has been married for 34 years and has three children and one grandchild on the way. More than ever, he is concerned with what his generation is leaving behind for the next generations to deal with.
Doug Grandt, California: At age 57, Doug had a wake up call. In 2004, he heard Al Gore presenting his slide show on National Public Radio. Visualizing in his mind's eye the melting glaciers, shrinking ice caps, hurricanes, floods, charts and graphs, he decided on the 2004 winter solstice that he could – and would – learn to present Mr. Gore's slide show. Trained by Mr. Gore in 2007 and having presented to a broad spectrum of audiences, Doug realized that 1Sky offered the activism that he felt was necessary to round out his presentations. As a 1Sky regional coordinator and a climate presenter, Doug has married climate awareness with local and national climate activism.
Adam Hasz, Missouri: Adam is an Environmental Studies undergraduate student at Washington University in St. Louis. He is an active member of his campus environmental activism group Green Action and was a lead organizer for Missouri Power Shift '09 state conference. Adam is also a leader in the Missouri Student Environmental Coalition, an organization designed to foster collaboration between the many college and high school environmental groups within Missouri. Adam believes that through dedication and cooperation, America can achieve the social and political changes necessary to effectively deal with the climate crisis and create a just and sustainable future.
Doug Howell, Michigan: Douglas has been active in progressive causes since he became an anti-war advocate at Michigan State University in 1970. A long time member of Clean Water Action and Sierra Club, he canvassed in support of progressive candidates after the 2000 election outcome. He was eventually selected as a Clean Water Action Volunteer of the Year in Michigan. It was through CWA that Doug was introduced to the 1Sky campaign. The undeniable reality of global climate change moved the environment ahead of all other issues so, when the opportunity to be a 1Sky regional coordinator was presented, the decision to take on that role was easy.
Ryan Lennon, New York: Ryan is an undergraduate environmental science student at the State University of New York at Albany. He has worked with New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG) for two years as a project leader for their environmental protection project. As an organizer in Albany he has helped mobilize hundreds of community members on legislative issues such as reducing diesel emissions from state vehicles, creating access to environmental justice, and increasing recycling, to name a few.
Joanna Pollock, Arkansas: Joanna Pollock has a Bachelor's of Science in Nutrition from Ouachita Baptist University, a background in public administration, public health nutrition and long term care consultation. This background has helped to inform her of the interconnectedness and sheer brevity of life. She is currently a graduate student in Counseling at the University of Arkansas and has a special interest in Eco-Psychology. Joanna Pollock seeks efforts to transform culture toward values of sustainability through policy, business, education and personal change. Joanna also worked as Communications Coordinator for Repower Arkansas, an organization started by Arkansas native climatologist, Dr. Robert McAfee.
Chuck Prentice, Minnesota: Chuck has served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Lima, Peru, did community organizing for ten years in Chicago, and worked for non-profit housing organizations in St. Paul, MN for ten years. She plans to go in to environmental organizing as a career after she finishes high school and college. Currently living just outside Albuquerque, her other ambition is to travel the world.
Sonda Saurs, North Dakota: Sonda has been involved in movements for social justice for the last seven years. She has recently become involved with 1Sky as the Regional Coordinator for North Dakota where she is working to spread the word and broaden the base of environmental supporters in the area. She is currently working toward her B.A. in Psychology at the Minnesota State University of Moorhead. Her number one goal in life is to help others in anyway she can. She figures that there is no more of a humanitarian issue or a better way to help people than to save this great planet we share.
