Open thread: Stories from Mother's Day weekend events

Posted by: Michael Silberman | May 9, 2008

Mother's Day weekend is here! As of right now, hundreds of you have planned more than 475 events across the country in record time for this weekend. After talking with so many of you about your events, we can't wait to hear how they go!

We've already seen incredible photos of banners from Kona, HI and Seattle, WA -- so now we can't wait to see what happens at all of the other gatherings.

I'm starting this open thread for anyone returning from a Mother's Day weekend art party, mommy meetup, or other climate gathering.

Post a picture and share stories from your gathering with the rest of the 1Sky community on Faces of Climate Change.

And if you're an event host, keep an eye on your email for important reminders and next steps, but most importantly, please don't forget to get your banner in the mail to us as soon as your event is over so that we can start preparing it for delivery to Congress!

Enjoy these photos submitted from Mother's Day events all across the country!

Thank you 1 Sky for encouraging and inspiring us to creat a mural entitled: "Save r planet"!

We had a fabulous time making our Malibu Sare R Planet Mural. The centerpiece of our Mural was a simple canvas bag. If we all bring our own bags, instead of using plastic or paper one-use bags everytime we go to our grocery stores, think of the resources we could conserve (plastic bags are a petroleum by-product and paper bags are made from trees)!

I am happy to report that on May 12, 2008, the day after Mother's Day, the City of Malibu voted to ban plastic bags from being used in our stores!

Thanks again for inspriring all of us to do what we can to save and honor our precious Mother Earth!

With admiration, gratitude, and respect,

Pamela Conley Ulich
Mayor
City of Malibu
