Hey climate activists—you get one huge high-five! In just over a week, we've had over 1,350 people sign up to either visit their Congress member during August recess, follow candidates at their events (aka bird-dogging), or have a public gathering to demonstrate support for the 1Sky platform. In March, after a whole month of signing people up, we were excited to see over 540 stepping up. Now, in a week, you have more than doubled that!

So what does this mean? The movement is growing, and people are stepping up to make an impact in their district. If every activist takes responsibility for moving his or her Congress member in 2008, by 2009, we will undoubtedly pass the most far-reaching and bold climate policy to date. Here at 1Sky, we're working day and night to bring new people, organizations, and businesses in, and then we're throwing the challenge back at you to organize your district.

Don't forget the importance of acting during this particular recess, when every Representative (and nearly a third of the Senate) is out campaigning and far more likely to listen to constituents. During the month of August, we are especially pointing out the importance of short-term targets to Congress. We need to act now, really emphasizing the 2020 targets or sooner! Because most people, politicians, and groups are conveniently focusing on future targets, we need you, the climate leaders in your districts, to bring home the short-term target message this August.

The first thing to do, if you haven't already, is sign up today! Register your action with us by clicking here. We'll get back to you shortly with our recommendations – whether it's best to target your Senator or your Rep, and then what type of action would have the most impact.

Then, don't forget to pick up the phone to call your repesentative's office to set up a meeting today. Find your Member of Congress' contact info by checking out Congress Merge. The sooner you call, the more likely your member or a staff person in your member's office will be able to meet.
