It’s August and it’s definitely getting hot! As you all know, there has been an enormous response to our national call to action during the Congressional recess, which entails “turning up the heat” on your Member of Congress and demanding action for bold climate change policy.

However, the temperature and political space are not the only things rising to a new level this month: networking between people in the same districts and the connections being made between 1Sky leaders have also reached record numbers.

I am amazed by the willingness and eagerness people have to connect with each other and collaborate on the most effective way to target their representatives. Due to this response, the 1Sky team has worked hard to send out introductory emails to people within the same districts so that they may engage in conversation.

What was the response? Well let me share a story with you:

By the time the introductory email had reached a district in Northern Virginia, a leader had already set up a meeting. Generously and enthusiastically, he invited others to join him. Not only were there several positive responses, but one leader’s husband was moved by the event and he too decided to join. Within the day, the meeting had gone from a one-man show to a diverse group of people ranging in age and profession. Several of them joined a lobby training call last Tuesday and spoke of their experiences, asked great questions, and provided thoughtful comments. But did they stop there? Guess again. Now they are even planning to get together before hand over coffee to structure their meeting!

I not only applaud this group, but I am inspired by them. Activists, it is so important that we come together! One way of doing that is by joining with others in your district during this important time when your Congressional leaders will be home. One group at a time, the movement will grow beyond immeasurable strength and rise to a whole new level.
