Vote "yes" for green jobs
Yesterday (12/15) Parade Magazine (page 8) ran a green jobs article called "Could Going Green Create Jobs?"
The article includes important facts about new green jobs (jobs that save energy and help the country convert from fossil fuel addiction to use of renewable power and alternative fuels) like:
- Retrofitting old buildings to meet environmental standards could replace many of the 800,000 construction jobs lost recently.
- A recent report from Duke University shows growth at firms producing energy-efficient windows and light bulbs. The report predicts future growth in states like Indiana, Ohio, and California.
1Sky Board member Van Jones, who is the author of the best-seller The Green Collar Economy is quoted in the article explaining green jobs: "It's not George Jetson with a jet pack," he said.
"It's Joe Six-Pack with a hard hat and a lunch bucket, ready to install solar panels."
Unfortunately, the article ends with this not well framed question: "should the government subsidize the creation of green jobs?" (Answer options are yes or no).
Please go to www.parade.com/intel and vote "yes" for green jobs. It is important that Parade readers (not to mention the leaders of our country) know there is a huge movement of people who want to see the green jobs for a better cleaner future.
