Newt Gingrich to shill for big polluters at today's Waxman-Markey hearing
Today, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich will testify in the House Energy and Environment Subcommittee with his take on what government should do about America’s energy future. Former Vice President and Nobel Prize winner Al Gore, will testify first, along with former Republican Senator John Warner of Virginia -- Newt is a mere side-show.
I must note it is the two distinguished statesmen (Gore and Warner) who support the Waxman/Markey bill draft to usher America in to a clean energy future, while Gingrich will suggest the usual higher profits for oil companies approach to energy. It might be entertaining to watch Gingrich back-pedal from this ad he made for the "We Can Solve It" campaign sponsored by Gore's group, the Alliance for Climate Protection:
Gingrich has been a paid shill for the oil companies which, while already making record profits, want more of the status quo. Both the oil companies and Gingrich want us to stay dependent on oil. Of course they do. ExxonMobil is the most profitable company in the world according to the most recent Fortune 500 list. If you have time, watch this video that shows Gingrich and his campaign for drilling in the Arctic wilderness:
One person’s advice I’ll keep in mind when listening to Gingrich is Joe Romm’s of the Center for American Progress. His testimony against Waxman-Markey is not news. And the title says it all…
