Van Jones among Time Magazine's Top 100
This post comes from our Sidwell Friends School intern Florencia Foxley -- Garth
Green jobs champion and former 1Sky board member Van Jones was recently named one of Time Magazine’s 2009 most influential people.
In addition to being a hero and an icon, Jones now serves at the White House Council on Environmental Equality as a Special Advisor for Green Jobs, Enterprise, and Innovation. He is also the founder of 1Sky ally Green for All, an organization dedicated to promoting a transition to a just, green economy.
The Time article, written by Academy Award-nominated actor and a committed environmentalist Leonardo DiCaprio, observes Van's dedication to the cause, “In less than two years, Jones has risen from local grassroots organizer to shepherd of a national movement to build an inclusive green economy — one that connects the people who most need work to the work that most needs to be done.”
In other Van Jones news, the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights honors Van at their Hubert H. Humphrey dinner this evening (May 7). Congrats to Van!
