VIDEO: Members of Congress diss more jobs for their own districts

Watch this video from our friends at the Center for American Progress, where the members of Congress who represent the dinosaur dirty fuels of the past try to make the case against new jobs in clean and renewable energy sectors. I hope John Stewart or Stephen Colbert catch this video:

I cannot imagine what made these gentlemen attack green jobs since since every poll we see says Americans want more clean jobs.

Rep. John Fleming (R-LA) says:

What we really get is a pass-through of taxpayer dollars that go into what I would call artificial - or I call them paper mâché jobs, so-called green jobs.”

Perhaps Rep. Fleming didn't read the report by the Center for American Progress (PDF) that shows investment in clean jobs produces four times as many jobs as an equivalent investment in the oil industry.

Another choice quote, this time from Rep. G.T. Thompson (R-PA) said,

This is all in the name of green, greening America, specifically solar and hydro. But I have to - in terms of the economy, the other green that comes to mind is gangrene.

In response, Think Progress made this important point,

The Environmental Defense Fund website notes there are at least four clean energy companies in Thompson’s district and six in Akin’s district. Maybe these right-wing congressmen should consider they are not only preventing millions of future green jobs by opposing Waxman-Markey, but by sliming green jobs they are mocking their own constituents.

Here's the blog from Think Progress if you want to read more.
