Get ready for Blog Action Day

Blog Action Day logo

The social web is all about discussion. Every day millions of blogs across the Internet talk about topics such as cooking, technology, entertainment, politics, and science as well as what's going on in people's personal lives.

Blog Action Day is about creating and harnessing the global Internet's discussion. Since 2007, bloggers across the globe have come together once a year to collectively discuss a single social issue from each of their perspectives. In 2007 the topic was the environment. In 2008, poverty.

Due to popular vote, the Internet will discuss climate change on October 15, 2009.

The online activism gurus over at Care2 have been given the reins, so you know this will be huge. As of this morning 4,182 sites in most every language, with more than 10 million readers, have registered to dedicate October 15 to blogging about climate change. They will educate, debate, plan, advocate, study, and otherwise write about the effects of and solutions to this global threat.

Where you come in

  1. PROMOTE
  2. Let all the bloggers you read regularly know that this is going on and that you want to hear from them. The Blog Action Day website has easy-to-use links to Twitter, Facebook, and embeddable site badges so you can help spread the word wherever you live online.

  3. WRITE
  4. Before reading what others have to say, this is your chance to express what you think we can do as nations and individuals to fight the climate crisis. If you have a blog, use it. Register here on the Blog Action Day site to have your blog listed as being involved. You can then promote your participation with a site badge or on Twitter and Facebook.

Then, on October 15, make your voice heard! Write about how you see the effects of climate change, what you plan to do in response, and what our elected leaders should be doing as well.

  5. READ
  6. Check out the full list of participating blogs, as well as some of the partner groups and their blogs. Speak up in the comments and join the conversation there!

1Sky is a partner organization in Blog Action Day and we would love our supporters to participate. We can't change the world's direction on climate policy without speaking up and speaking out. This is a perfect chance to do just that!
