Hunters and anglers for a comprehensive climate bill

As we can clearly see from 1Sky's massive and diverse list of allies, it is clear that people and groups from all walks of life want to see climate action now. As Reuters reported today, twenty major hunting and fishing groups have been lobbying the Senate to pass comprehensive climate legislation.

Sportsmen are concerned with how changes in the climate will impact their family and local traditions. One example mentioned is how fowl may not migrate to typical areas if northern regions get warmer. It is typically the case that changes in habitat for arctic animals, such as polar bears, are more often cited regarding wildlife effects of climate change. The truth is that just as the climate crisis will be felt by humans everywhere the same is true for animals.

The hunter and angler groups' efforts are notable because those groups are not typically associated with progressive causes. The article explains that some of the most typical political faces of sportsmen are President George W. Bush, Vice President Cheney, and Sarah Palin — hardly liberal by anyone's measure.

Read the full article for more, including results of a survey from 1Sky ally National Wildlife Federation examining the makeup of the hunter and angler communities. We will need to work with all communities, regardless of traditional political lines, if we want to save our one climate. The work of hunting and fishing groups is a great example of that.
