Reps. Filner and Kucinich run with the 350 baton and urge Obama to action

Last Saturday was a fantastic day for climate change awareness, but it wasn't the end of the race for the 350 parts per million CO2 goal – it was just the starting pistol. As we hoped, some members of Congress agree and have joined the race with us.

Two congressmen, Representative Bob Filner (D-CA) and Representative David Kucinich (D-OH) have written a letter and House Resolution, with help from our friend Colin Beaven (aka No Impact Man), informing President Obama of the dangers if we do not bring CO2 levels under 350 ppm. They are asking him to go to the UN Climate Change Conference in December seeking agreement with other world leaders on "the ultimate goal of lowering and maintaining the level of CO2 in the Earth's atmosphere at 350 parts per million."

As you know, if we fail to lower the concentration of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere we will see dramatic and likely catastrophic effects. The world spoke out Saturday that this is the time to make a stand to right the wrongs we have done to our planet. The Copenhagen conference is the perfect place and time for President Obama to join us in making the call for strong climate action.

Rep. Kucinich and Rep. Filner are already working on getting signatures from other representatives, but we can help as well. Call your members of the US House of Representatives and urge them to sign on to Rep. Filner's letter. You can find all of the contact information for your congresspeople here at Project Vote Smart. Your voice is crucial! Tell us what you heard when you called at congress@1sky.org.
