Obama must keep his climate promises to world's poor

The world's poorest nations are on the front lines of catastrophic climate change. The recent floods in Pakistan and droughts in Africa are just the most recent examples of how the world's poor are suffering because of our leaders' indifference to the climate crisis. Now that we face a Congress full of climate deniers and shills for big polluters, President Obama must become a true global climate leader to help the world's poorest nations cope with climate chaos.

That's why 1Sky has joined with Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, ActionAid and the Jubilee USA Network to gather 50,000 signatures for a petition urging the President to keep his promises at this year's UN climate conference in CancĂșn, Mexico. We believe it's fundamentally unfair that the world's poor should suffer from our leaders' unwillingness to grapple with climate change change in a serious way.

Nearly a year ago, we reported to you from the UN climate talks in Copenhagen that the U.S. and other developed countries agreed to raise $100 billion per year by 2020 to help developing countries adapt to the impacts of climate change, protect their forests, and transition to clean energy economies. President Obama now has a responsibility to keep America's climate promises to the world's poorest nations.

We'll deliver this petition and our message to the White House on December 1st and to key U.S. officials at the climate conference in CancĂșn, Mexico in December. Sign the petition to President Obama today!
