Ayo
I live green and eat a plant-based diet.Yet, I use a wheelchair and many appliances that run on electrical power. I am working with Green Think Tank for the Disability Community to find solutions through clean energy and solar power to reduce our carbon footprint. I am working with 1Sky Chicago, because I run an organization where most of the people who are disabled are unable to afford their energy costs, transportation costs, or healthcare costs. Many have respiratory issues and need a green paratransit system to avoid exacerabation of their environmental illness or allergies to chemicals in the air. Our city has a high asthma count and we feel that reducing emissions, not starting new coal plants, and putting Illinois workers back to work in green jobs will not only help with climate control, but reduce asthma rates. 1Sky Chicago is having a Get On Board rally Mon. August 31 at noon to encourage Senators Burris and Durbin to pass a strong clean energy bill that creates 5 million green jobs and supports at least 2 other major points of the 1Sky energy platform: no new coal plants, reduce emissions at least 20% by 2020. We want the U.S. Senate bill to pass international scrutiny before Copenhagen conference on international treaty for climate action takes place in December 2009.
