CALL FOR CLIMATE ACTION TO CHART A NEW COURSE FOR OUR EARTH SPACESHIP
As a local Climate Precinct Captain of the 1Sky.org, an environmental non-profit with a focus to stem global warming, I am calling our fellow Arcadia citizens and friends to participate in a 1Sky sponsored global event on October 24, the International Day of Climate Action. The event is a key step of the movement of returning our spaceship to 350, a new number that we ought to keep in mind. A group of international organizations are all coming forward in an unprecedented alliance to create the global climate movement to reduce carbon dioxide, mainly CO2, in our atmosphere on that day.
Thousands of additional groups and individuals worldwide have signed up with them to take part in the global action. I urge my fellow citizens to voice your support and take actions in this movement.
What is the 350? CO2 is measured in "parts per million (ppm)" and 350 ppm is the level that scientists have identified as the safe upper limit for CO2 and it's the number we needs to get back to as soon as possible from the current 390 level in order to avoid runaway climate change. Led by 350.org and other environmental groups such as 1Sky, Greenpeace, and online powerhouses Avaaz, the action will be highlighted at more than 3000 events in 158 countries around the world on October 24.
Signed up events are taken place in many places in the US, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. The October 24th events will be of every stripe and color--in addition to the thousands of amazing rallies, educational events, and protests, there will be unique contributions. For example, the president of the Maldives, a near-extinct island-nation, will be holding a cabinet meeting underwater, complete with scuba gear and 350 banners.
CIEDM has signed up for the event and commit to promote the public awareness and actions of the 350 movement both locally and globally. We have spread the words by writing articles and sending out news announcements though our email network and contacts with media. We are proud to be on board with 350.org, 1 Sky.org and Mr. Gore in the spaceship for the 350 mission. The mission will be possible if you will be chart the course with us in this space journey. Please sign up the event today with 1Sky.org or 350.org.
