1Sky Responds to Obama's United Nations Climate Summit Speech
World leaders convened at the United Nations Headquarters in NYC on Tuesday, September 22, to discuss ways to reduce the world's carbon emissions. Obama delivered opening remarks at this Climate Summit, but 1Sky and other environmental groups viewed his speech as unsubstantive and weak on concrete proposals. 1Sky's Gillian Caldwell said,
"We need a binding global agreement to tackle the looming crisis of climate change before it is too late, and the prospects of a global deal are much better if the United States - a leading emitter of global warming pollution worldwide for decades - takes binding action now to clean up its act and set us on the course towards the clean energy jobs of the 21st century."
