1Sky Maine and Coalition Urge Clean Energy Legislation at UMPI
As a part of "Maine's Energy Future" Tour, 1Sky Maine and a coalition of other groups led by Repower Maine gathered around a massive wind turbine at the University of Maine Presque Isle's action event. Attendees, including several faculty members from UMPI's environmental studies department, activists, and community members admired the wind turbine, which could produce 1 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year and save the campus $100,000 anually in electricity costs, according to UMPI's president, Don Zillman. This event was only one of many throughout the state of Maine aimed at pressuring Senators Snowe and Collins to support comprehensive clean energy legislation.
