Yesterday, I went to a meeting at the Energy Action Coalition office, where all the action is happening to put together Power Shift 2009 -- the largest conference on climate change ever.

The office was hustling and bustling with excitement and you could feel the energy while walking through the halls, watching all the talented organizers prepare for this historic moment. There were press calls being made and chatter about the celebrity line-up, with musical artists like The Roots and social justice leaders like Van Jones.

On our end, we are helping to plan and prepare many of the conference activities. Right now, we are solidifying talented speakers for the panels and workshops that will take place at Power Shift, as well as preparing for the monumental Lobby Day on Capitol Hill. Participants can look forward to learning valuable skills in grassroots organizing, which will give them effective tools to go back to their community and apply what they’ve learned, to create real world action on climate change. During the four-day conference there will be fascinating workshops and panels, such as: The Big Political Picture on Climate and Energy, Online to Offline Organizing, Environmental Justice, Climate Change and Economy, and Community Organizing.

We're thrilled to be part of this moment, our moment, as a climate movement. Power Shift 2009 is not just for America’s youth and climate activists, but all of us who see climate change as an all encompassing, fundamental social justice issue. It’s going to take everyone to solve the climate crisis, no matter where you’re from, your age, background or experience.

We said it before and I’ll say it again: 2009 is our year to get bold legislation passed on climate change. Power Shift gives us the opportunity and space to organize together, at this key moment.
