Summer Fades, Senate Work Begins
Summer Fades, Senate Work Begins
The unofficial "end-to-summer" this week is now the official start to crank up the pressure on the climate bill. Personally, I'm glad the summer's over. There are a lot of reasons for my embracing fall, including that I spent most of the summer hobbling around on crutches.
But here at 1Sky, we made sure that the last unofficial weeks of summer didn't hobble along. The last few weeks were marked with a ton of organizing at local Senate offices during the congressional recess.
- Last week, we had more than 100 events sending senators back to D.C. on the "Clean Energy Express." Check out our event map and pictures; thanks to all our organizers for their great events.
- The week before that, more 1,100 businesses leaders stood up and sent a letter to the U.S. Senate advocating for a clean energy jobs bill.
- More than 16,000 people joined 1Sky in marking the fourth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina by telling President Obama to be a strong leader on climate, so that Katrina doesn’t become the "new norm" of our weather patterns.
We realize that the most important place to impact the future of climate change legislation is not D.C., but back home. We know that the Senators need to hear from you, their constituents who got voted them into office in the first place. So, we've expanded our full-time field organizers for the fall by 16 organizers -- bringing our full-time organizing capacity to 40 organizers covering 30 states, plus a team of people doing organizing at 1Sky's headquarters. Not sure if 1Sky has an organizer in your state? Then drop us a line and we can connect you.
We have a ton of work to do this fall, but I know we will get it done together.
