Climate Action Parties rock!

There's nothing more heartwarming than a total show of movement unity and solidarity across the country with our Climate Action Parties.

We’ve got Margaret in southeast Alaska who, despite pooling from a small village with little support, knows that Senators Mark Begich and Lisa Murkowski need to hear from them loud and clear. We have organizer Diane Russell in Maine, who happens to be a state representative, and has whipped up nearly 20 community gatherings in Maine to kick off her campaign to pressure Senators Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe.

Then there are the glorious NYPIRG student chapters hitting their campuses in a series of more than ten "dorm storms" to generate calls into Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Chuck Schumer’s offices. We even have a pancake breakfast being organized by Climate Precinct Captain Maia in Wisconsin. Golly! And all we did was put out a fun video and some basic tips to organizing a get-together (PDF).

So you may be asking yourself, "what’s all the hubbub about house parties for?" Well, we’re working hard to bring together as many people as possible to gear up for a busy season ahead. You may have noticed we have a bill in the Senate now (as of yesterday!). And we also have international negotiations coming up in Copenhagen in early December, where we need Obama to be a champion for bold climate action. So these house parties are planning sessions for the Oct. 24th actions and beyond. They’re also opportunities to bring your friends together and make lots of phone calls. There’s still time to do one if you want -- just check out the Climate Action Parties home page and let us know you’re planning one!
