At the state level, 1Sky partners are taking action!
1Sky Florida is hard at work in one of the states most immediately affected by global warming. Already pushing forward with their own affiliated website www.1skyfl.org, 1Sky Florida has been mobilizing its base around non-stop events since early November. These include an early training with Bill McKibben and others on community climate organizing, a rally in November before the National CNN/Youtube Republican Debate in St. Petersburg, and on December 8th, the formation of aerial art by 300 participants on the beach with partners Greenpeace and Siesta Key Florida. They are continuing to grow and get media hits as they plan events into the coming year.
Meanwhile, other states are also taking initiative - many focusing in on the presidential primary debates as a top priority. In South Carolina, a coalition of groups led by the League of Conservation Voters are working on bringing blue balloons outside the upcoming Republican primary debate for a big media event in order to represent the rising sea tide. These and other high-visibility events are exactly what we need to continue mobilizing local support to elect a climate leader in '08 who will usher in an era of climate reform.
1Sky Florida is a project of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, Step it Up 2007, and the Southern Energy Network. 1Sky Washington and 1Sky New Mexico have already taken their states by storm, and in other states, coalitions are forming around promoting the 1Sky platforms. Take their example and start your own state affiliate, using the 1Sky platforms to mobilize a grassroots base in your state.
