What Green Jobs Now is all about
Green Jobs Now is only hours away. I can feel the excitement in the air! Here in Washington DC we're helping with art supplies and tents for the event in Southeast Washington organized by Nydria Humphries. and can't wait to see DC council members and others rally the crowd!
While we ramp up for our actions, I think it's important to contextualize what we're working for. We are collectively calling for an economic transformation that would create jobs for low income and communities of color along with others. And within both of those communities, women have the most to gain.
Our colleagues at WEDO – the Women's Environment and Development Organization – came out with a 2-pager on economic and gender justice (PDF) to contribute to our knowledge and fuel our activism as we work towards this incredible day. The article outlines why "in our fight for a new green economy, women and men must be equal partners!"
Whatever is your deepest source of inspiration and motivation in this struggle, keep in mind how central the livelihoods of millions of people are to our clean energy future. Let's rally together proudly tomorrow, with an eye to the future!
