This is an open letter from Representatives Keith Ellison (MN-05) and Chellie Pingree (ME-01), publicly declaring their desire for a stronger clean energy bill. The list of the 48 Members of Congress who joined 1Sky and our allies in asking for a strengthening amendments follows the letter.

The letter encourages House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, and bill authors Reps. Henry Waxman and Edward Markey to strengthen the bill with three measures: restore EPA’s authority to regulate dirty coal, increase the renewable energy standard to 30%, and reduce allocations to polluters and redirect them towards green jobs, clean energy, and to protect natural resources and vulnerable communities in the United States and around the world.
