This just in from Yarden Dankner's mother's day event in Kona, Hawaii! Mother's Day weekend is here, so find or start an event near you! [1]

Our group of five adults and thirteen children met yesterday at the Donkey Mill Art Center on Kona, Hawaii. Our event was divided into 3 parts. First, we discussed the concept of our planet being like a mother and nurturing us. Just like our own mothers, Mother Earth provides us with all of our needs. Therefore, it is important for us to give back and keep our Mother Earth healthy. We spoke about the things that we could do to keep Mother Earth safe and have a healthy planet.

Then we used paper and pencils to sketch our ideas for the larger communal mural which we worked on together. The images on the mural are of our beloved sea life - Honu-sea turtles, dolphins, coral, and fish. There are also less pleasant images of smoke, crowded cities, and pollution. The painting was done over another painting so that we were recycling canvas. Over the Weekend I have organized another community gathering for 1Sky. After our Mother's day Biathlon race here in Kona, our athletes will become creative and produce a painting.

A lesser known casualty of the ethanol debate about how the production of bio-fuels is causing the United States food prices to soar, is the fact that soy wax made from soybeans has also increased dramatically in price. This is effecting candle makers across America and many candle companies are passing on their increased material price to the consumer--our company Double Brush is the exception. We are absorbing the price increase so our customers can still afford our Hawaiian handmade soy candles.
