Mother's Day weekend has come and gone, and we're happy to report that our call to action on climate change was a resounding success! Over the past three days, thousands of Americans concerned about global warming—including many of you—organized over 465 events all over the country!
We've been receiving reports and pictures from awesome volunteer organizers throughout the day. Pictures of families and communities working together on their banners to convey the urgency for bold action on climate change, like the one you see on this page. As a mother, I can't think of a better reminder of what this campaign is all about—our children's future—than this picture.
Here are more adorable pictures for your enjoyment:
And here are some snippets from the reports that organizers have been sending in throughout the day:
Our event was yesterday and it was a day we will never forget. First we read Debra Fraiser's book On the Day You Were Born and discussed all of the things we would like to keep alive and well on our planet. The kids came up with some great ideas and thoughts about what we need to protect.--Ericka (Los Angeles, CA)
We highlighted the things we love about our Island- its beautiful conifers, its salmon, its pileated woodpeckers, the snow-covered mountains surrounding it. All these natural resources are threatened by climate change.--Debbie (Bainbridge Island, WA)
Three moms and their kids (11 in all!) met in my apartment in San Juan, Puerto Rico to share our feelings about global warming, play out in the sun, draw on a large fabric, and call Congress. It was amazing to see how much the kids knew about what is happening to our planet and how passionate they feel about making things better.--Roxanna Domenech (San Juan, PR)
Boston Climate Action Network volunteers just completed our Mother's Day mural-making effort, with dozens of Boston residents of all ages adding their creative touches to a mural urging bold action on climate change.--Viki (Jamaica Plain, MA)

I will be in DC from May 31-June 3. I will be meeting with Congresswoman Herseth Sandlin and Senators Johnson and Thune on June 3. I will be at a training sponsored by the National Audubon Society, the Sierra Club and the Izaak Walton League. We will be meeting on population and habitat. If our current fertility rate continues we will add more people to the planet in the next few decades than we have during the last 500,000 years. We are concerned about the fact that thousands of species have been pushed to the edge of extinction by population-fueled habitat destruction. I will share this information with them while I am there. I am on the board of the Prairie Hills Audubon Society.

We need to "wake up." Wake up from the dream of making life easier for humans today while limiting Mother Earth's future. We need to spur a new world view - "we" as opposed to "me." Humans being connected to the rest of life around us. We all need to learn to live sustainably if we are to continue to live. Wake up - we are using 1.3 Earths globally and we only have 1 Earth.

Let's not make any more of our precious wildlife extinct if we have it in our power to change the tide.
At some point,if we do not start respecting our surroundings, it could harm our family, our pets and our lives.
Let's keep the peace in nature with respect.

The changes to the environment in my yard is astounding. My sugar maples used to drop their leaves each year right on que. Since 2004 they seem to have forgotten how. The old growth sheds only after the new growth buds. Im not able to participate in many of the local environment campaigns so I do my part by writing op/eds and letters to the editor for my local paper. Ive also written a few short stories for a local womans magazine that attempts to put a personal touch on environmental issues. I recently started a blog, Frugal Greensleeves, to share my stories with others.

I want action NOW. I know the impact is REAL. And as I know big interest will try to sell us the opposite because their interest. And the GOV have the social responsibility to ACT. Because as a mother i can also see that i will not like a world for kids where there is a fight for recourse because we waist so much.

We see the impact of climate change because we live near the shore in Maine, and the bluff below our neighborhood is eroding as the high tide reaches higher and storms are more ferocious. We're doing what we can as individuals: changing light bulbs, consolidating trips, buying local -- AND we need federal action on climate change NOW for future generations, for all species, for our planet.

I have been trying to work on environmental issues since I found out that I was going to be a grandmother. My granddaughter just turned one year old.I want Olive to enjoy the same world I did when I was a child. I also want her to know that I tried to do my part.
